Between the Islands – A Day of Canoeing and Archery in the Stockholm Archipelago

The morning begins quietly by the water below Skåvsjöholm AB.
A thin mist drifts across the archipelago. The first rays of sunlight touch the smooth granite rocks, seagulls glide above the water, and somewhere between the pines you can already smell coffee and the sea.
The canoes wait by the dock.
Dry bags are packed away. Paddles checked. Bows carefully secured.
No hectic schedule. No feeling of a tourist attraction.
More like setting out into the islands outside Stockholm with old friends.
And that is where the real day begins.
I guide you through this landscape as an instinctive archery instructor and outdoor guide.
Not as an entertainer. Not as someone who talks all the time.
But as someone who knows the archipelago, has lived instinctive archery for many years, and understands how quickly people reconnect with themselves out here between water, wind, and fire.
The Stockholm archipelago consists of thousands of islands, small coves, granite cliffs, and silent waterways. Some places can only be reached by canoe. That is exactly what makes this day special.
After only a few minutes, the hotel disappears behind the trees.
The water becomes calmer.
The movements more natural.
With every paddle stroke, the mind grows quieter.
We glide through narrow passages and out onto open stretches of water. Small red wooden houses are scattered across the islands, seabirds skim low above the waves, and the pine trees often reach all the way down to the sea.
Along the way we stop again and again.
Not to measure performance.
Not to count points.
But simply to experience.
On a small island we pull ashore. Dry firewood rests beneath the trees. While coffee boils over the campfire, we bring out the bows.
Instinctive archery out in nature changes something.
No pressure to perform. No artificial indoor ranges.
Only movement, focus, and trust.
For many people, this is the first time they discover how calm archery can truly be.
The sound of the arrow.
The crackling fire.
Wind moving through the pines.
Often, that is all you need.
In the afternoon we continue deeper into the archipelago. Sometimes the wind grows stronger, small waves hit the canoes, and that is where this feeling of adventure naturally appears. Not staged. Just real.
Maybe we encounter a sea eagle.
Maybe we discover a tiny island where we are completely alone.
The archipelago decides for itself each day how it wants to reveal itself.
Toward evening we find one final place by the water. The campfire burns once more. The sun slowly sinks behind the islands, turning the sea and rocks into warm gold.
And then we simply sit there.
With smoke in our clothes.
With tired arms from paddling.
With that quiet feeling of freedom that only exists outdoors.
And very often, something special happens right then:
People become calmer.
More open.
More real.
Maybe that is the true reason why we go out there.
Not only because of the canoe.
Not only because of the bow.
But because a day of instinctive archery out in the archipelago reminds us what real adventure actually feels like.
